Rare earth elements (REEs) continue to be a hot topic. This group of 17 chemically similar elements crucial to the manufacture of many hi-tech products is causing international supply headaches. China currently produces about 90 percent of the world’s rare earths and produces more than 70 percent of the world’s rare earth magnets - neodymium in particular is used to make smaller, more efficient and more powerful magnets used in loudspeakers and computer hard drives.


Much of the current emphasis on innovation seems to concentrate on new sectors capable of bringing about significant social and economic change, from mobile telephony to digital technology. As a result, sectors that could be classified as mature and which are seen as generating little in terms of innovation are given scant regard.

The Bahrain Airport project is a $1 billion project that aims to host 27 million passengers a year. Other projects, like the Riyadh Metro, extending 176 kilometres of rail throughout the largest city in Saudi Arabia, present growth opportunities that will last a decade or more.


The findings reveal that digital maturity – where an organisation uses sophisticated tools to drive performance and demonstrates an on-going commitment to technology, technology-led initiatives and digitally managed processes – is now a priority for 77 percent of businesses represented in Europe and the Middle East.


If all 200 aircraft are acquired, this deal will be worth over $22 billion at current list prices.  Ryanair becomes the lead customer for this new aircraft which in its configuration will feature 197 seats (eight more than Ryanair’s existing 737-800s) and new CFM LEAP-1B engines, which combined with aerodynamic improvements will reduce fuel consumption by up to 18% in Ryanair’s configuration and reduce operational noise emissions by 40 percent.
