Set within the historic former U.S. Embassy building in Mayfair, the Chancery Rosewood London officially opened its doors in September 2025, marking a new chapter for this iconic mid-century modern landmark. Developed by Qatari Diar Europe LLP, this £1 billion project transformed the Grade II-listed 1960s structure, designed by acclaimed architect Eero Saarinen, into a premier luxury hotel destination featuring 144 all-suite accommodations.
David Chipperfield Architects led the meticulous restoration and adaptive reuse of the building, honoring Saarinen’s original modernist façade and unique diagrid ceiling. French designer Joseph Dirand infused the interiors with sophisticated Art Deco elements, walnut paneling, and brass accents, evoking the ambiance of a classic British gentlemen’s club with contemporary luxury touches.
The hotel boasts eight signature restaurants and bars, including New York’s famed Carbone and an Asian-inspired rooftop Eagle Bar, which offers panoramic views of London alongside the hotel’s iconic golden eagle sculpture—a symbol of its storied diplomatic past. The expansive Asaya wellness center features a 25-meter swimming pool, fitness facilities, and holistic treatment rooms.
Sustainability is a core focus, with the Chancery Rosewood being the first U.K. hotel to achieve a BREEAM Outstanding certification, underscoring its commitment to environmental stewardship alongside luxury hospitality.
The Chancery Rosewood stands as a transformative infrastructure project that marries heritage preservation with modern innovation, enriching London’s hotel landscape while setting new standards for luxury, design, and sustainable development in the heart of Mayfair.
